A wedding dress is the clothing worn by a bride during a nuptial ceremony. Nowadays, wearing white dresses for ceremonies is very prevalent, though some brides still hold traditional ones.
Before going to an Indian wedding I always thought that the white nuptial dress is the most beautiful all over the world. Until then I found that “Different wedding traditions call for different wedding outfits” Color, style and ceremonial importance of the gown can depend on the religion and culture of the participants.
Indian culture
In India, not just the couple, but the guests attending the family and the relatives are often seen dressed up to the teeth. So you can see a so grand ceremony. The Bride is dressed up in auspicious colors, where as the Bridegroom is dressed to exude a regale aura. The Bridesmaids and Best men are often dressed in par with the bride and the groom. But they are toned down a bit because the day belongs to the couple. Therefore you could always find that the bride is still the most beautiful woman. The following picture is an Indian bride in a white sari. Bridal wear are made in a wide range of fabrics ranging from silk to georgettes, from traditional Kanchipuram silk to contemporary synthetic fabrics. Look how pretty she is!
Western culture
In western countries, nuptial dresses have traditionally been based on the popular styles of the day. For example, in the 1920s, the bridal dresses were typically short in the front with a longer train in the back and were worn with cloche-style wedding veils. This tendency to follow current fashions continued until the late 1940s, when it became popular to revert to long, full-skirted designs reminiscent of the Victorian era. Although there has always been a style that dominates the bridal market for a time, and then shifts with the changes in fashion, a growing number of modern brides are not choosing to follow these trends. This is due in large part to non-traditional and non-first-time marries, and women who are marrying later in life. Today, Western bridal dresses are usually white, though “wedding white” includes creamy shades such as eggshell, ecru and ivory.
Eastern culture
Many wedding dresses in China, India and Vietnam are colored red, the traditional color of good luck and auspiciousness. Red saris are the traditional garment choice for brides in Chinese culture. Over time, color options and fabric choices for Chinese brides have expanded. Today fabrics like crepe, Georgette, tissue and satin are used, and colors have been expanded to include gold, pink, orange, maroon, brown, and yellow as well.
At Japanese, brides will often wear three or more dresses throughout the ceremony and subsequent celebrations with a traditional kimono, white and color dress combination being popular. The Javanese people of Indonesia wear a kebaya, a traditional kind of blouse, along with batik. However keeping pace with the international fashion, many women choose other kinds besides their traditional owns. In modern Chinese ceremonies, the bride may opt for Western dresses of any color. But I still believe the bride wearing cheongsam is the most elegant.
You can be the most beautiful woman in the world, as long as you are a bride. But if you want to become the most particularly nice bride, you can try amazing wedding dress which differs from our traditional. I don’t know whether those garments would be considered strange, but they’re worth a try.
